Storage Tips Just for Kids
Garage Cabinets Help Form Lifetime Habits for Children
When it's difficult for the kids to put away their sporting equipment, they don't. When it's easy and there are special bins for bats, balls and skateboards, racks for bikes and bins for ball gloves, it's easy for everyone to drop and hang equipment where it belongs instead of on the floor. White Rabbit features a special children's department which focuses on developing the very best systems for organizing and storing children's things.
- Make sure the toys are on low shelves so that the children can easily reach them.
- Toys will be easily accessible if they are on open shelves and not behind doors.
- Wire baskets should not be overfilled as the items on the bottom will be difficult to access and difficult to put back.
- Shallower baskets should be used for smaller objects (baseballs, tennis balls) and deeper baskets should be used for larger objects (basketballs and soccer balls).
- Roller blades may be most efficiently placed on shelves rather than in baskets.
- A separate pegboard should be used for kids items separate and apart from adult's yard tools.
- An area should be designated in the garage for the kids' bikes during spring through fall and then placed on a bike rack on the wall during the winter.
- The area designated for the bikes should allow for the easiest route for the kids to get the bikes into and out of the garage.
- Personalized lockers are a good way to allow children to create a space that they own and will keep neat and clean.
- Wall hooks for coats and school bags in the garage may be a great storage solution.
- Baseball bats and hockey sticks can be stored in specially designed wall racks or on the pegboard.
- Safety is an important issue in the garage which is especially important for kids.
- Create a mini family project and take 20 minutes at the beginning of spring to discard unwanted items and to make sure items are in the appropriate places.
If you have children under the age of 8, you can be a Bunny Stop. The White Rabbit will give the kids a booklet to give them tips on how to care for and organize their belongings and encourage them to continue using their bins and racks.
It's fun. It's meaningful. It works!
Our Goal: Give parents the BEST TOOLS possible to help form lifetime habits for the kids.
